Dialysis treatment is an essential life-sustaining therapy when kidney function significantly declines and the body can no longer properly eliminate waste products and excess fluids. It uses a machine to remove waste products and fluids from the blood to prevent serious complications such as uremia and heart failure. Dialysis therapy for chronic kidney disease generally requires lifelong continuation.
